about

CFA OUTSOURCED

(Background story)

When CFA plays a show, they are there to have a good time with or

without you.

Most of the time their set includes a short instrumental titled "3 prong

Hawaiian Sling"

What's the purpose for always having it in their set?

CFA, being the merry makers they are, always try to pull someone from

the crowd to improvise vocals on this one minute frenzied piece of music.

After many successful experiences of doing that, they got to thinking,

"What if we asked vocalists from all sorts of genres to write and perform

their vocal tracks on this song and title it?” CFA did just that. Those invited

to participate were musicians and nonmusicians alike.

A musical experiment you ask?

Why yes.

A quasiexperiment

We have all heard someone, maybe even yourself, say "The vocalist

doesn't matter"

Well, we are here to present you with the material to draw your own

conclusion to that very query.

CRITERIA FOR EXPERIMENT

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS EXPERIMENT?

To see how changing only the vocalist on a song impacts the listener?

THE CONTROL

The control subject is the instrumental track.

Making it more complicated is the vocalists only had 57 seconds to work

with.

The only parameters were to work with the music as it was and to spend

no more than a couple of hours recording it.

None of the vocalists got to hear any of the other performer’s tracks

before recording their own.

They had full artistic control over their tracks and the content.

THE VARIABLES

The voice, cadence and lyrics applied.

THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT

To show how dramatic of a difference there is between styles on the same

piece of music and to bring people together in a manner that isn't typical

between genres.

Cody of CFA said 16 people were asked to participate and hoping to get

812 complete tracks. The outcome was much greater than that, thus,

proving the tenacity of the DIY scene.

VOCALIST INFORMATION Q'S

1. Song title

Lightning Menace

2. Vocalist name

Sabine Stangenberg

3. Bio, including a couple of picture of yourself.

Your current project if you wish?

Sabine Stangenberg, guitar and vocals for Disenchanter,

started out playing piano at 9 years old. At 16 she picked

up the guitar, being inspired by the SF Bay metal scene

and bands with epic guitar riffs and solos such as Iron

Maiden and early Metallica. Through the years Sabine had

dreams of playing live, her shyness kept her from realizing

them, but she kept the guitar close at hand. In the 90s she

went acoustic and started writing her own originals and

playing open mics in town, but not until the last few years

have Sabine's dreams begun to actualize. Along with

husband, Joey DeMartini, they have created Disenchanter

and have been gigging it up in Portland and other parts of

the Pacific Northwest for the last 2 1/2 years meeting and

playing with amazing bands and people. Sabine rocks her

Gibson SGs and Laneys at every show!

4. Also I have asked some people to do a track that are not musicians and

have never performed or recorded before or not for a very long time. If

this is you please specify.

5. What Genre do you typically fall under? (Feel free to make shit up)

METAL/STONER/DOOM/ROCK/DISCO?

6. Where were the vocals recorded? Studio/engineer? DIY? Elaborate

please.

I recorded my vocals in Disenchanter's rehearsal studio in Portland,

with the help of hubby, Joey DeMartini. We took a corner of the

10x10 room, draped a sheet of fabric for me to stand under, lyric

sheet taped to the wall, mic hooked up to our laptop and ran garage

band. Took me about 12 or so takes, then Joey mixed it all together.

Total DIY, haha!

7. Your thoughts on this project?

It's always interesting how a collaboration is going to turn out.

Fortunately, I dig CFA's music and when I first heard the song I was

immediately inspired and stoked to be a part of it!

8. Any notes you would like to add?

I would like to thank Cody and CFA for asking me to participate in

this project. They are super creative, talented and down to earth

beings and always know how to have a kickass time!

9. Your contact info to share on the project?

DISENCHANTER.COM

www.facebook.com/disenchanterpdx

10. where are you from

Originally from Marin County, CA...currently live in Portland, OR.

Apparently a project like this hasn't been done. According to the email

response we got back from Guinness book of world records. When the

project is complete we will submit it for a proper crown.

What do you think of this?

Is this ok with you? (You might be on the lamb, don't want to screw that

up)

Cool by me!
