Kirk Gauthier A colossal shift in both tone and sound from their previous work, there is a shimmering quality to Sun King that leans far more into the psychedelic rock side of things than the doom metal side. Not as goofy or lighthearted as your standard stoner rock fair (and no noticeable drug references, either), this is psychedelic doom with as much emphasis as humanly possible on all things psychedelic. Favorite track: Gilden Apple.

Colin M. I’m a sucker for well executed psych-stoner-doom hybrids and Moon Coven bring the riffs on this one. Dig it. Favorite track: The Lost Color.

Occult-tinged stoner doom from Sweden, Moon Coven just keep going from strength to strength. Their last album for Ripple, Slumber Wood was described by The Sleeping Shaman as "totally blown away by the avalanche of awesome stoner-doom riffage contained therein. It’s unusual to come across an album in such a crowded genre that sounds completely fresh and delivers such quality tunes from start to finish." And the band simply ups the ante on this, their third album.
